Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fusilli or rotini pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water to cool. Set aside.
In a mixing bowl, combine halved cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, chopped basil, and diced red onion. Stir gently.
In a small bowl or jar, whisk together balsamic vinegar, olive oil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. If using a jar, seal and shake until blended.
Add the cooled pasta to the tomato and mozzarella mixture. Drizzle dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat.
If using, add black olives to the salad and stir gently.
Taste the salad and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if desired.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
Notes
For an eye-catching finish, garnish with fresh basil leaves and a drizzle of balsamic reduction.
